Get to Know

Zami Hossain was born in 1996 into a family of academics, medical professionals, engineers and artists. This environment was a major facilitator to his growth and helped shape the ladder to his ambitions. At the age of 5 he had already made it to national news for his artwork, and had already been promoted to the final year of kindergarten. Soon after, due to his rapid growth in academic knowledge, his parents and teachers had decided that it would be best for him to advance onto secondary schooling. During this period, he was also receiving personal art & music lessons from artists at Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka. After an intensive admission process, ZH had received the opportunity to move onto secondary schooling, skipping the remainder of his time in primary. The rapid growth in his art was evident at the age of 7, and yet again another oil pastel art piece called  ‘’The Lonely Sunflower” had made it to national news. 4 years later, the adjustment with his peers at school was becoming more difficult for him.  This was also in correlation to his shift in music exploration from eastern classical to hard rock/metal, as many subjects portrayed were often considered demonic or anti-religious in a catholic school setting

At this point, he took a leap of faith and had dropped out of the prestigious privatized catholic school that he was enrolled in. He started prepping for GCSEs after 8th grade. 6 months of preparation later, he scored straight ‘A’s and had received ‘The Daily Star Award’ for his performance. Soon after, he was done with his A levels by the age of 16, and had started teaching GCSE and A level students in the field of sciences. At 17 he started medical school in China following on the family foot-steps. Being in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province at the heart of China where the Shaolin Temple is located – a deep impact was left in the artists approach to art. This was evident in the murals he had created for Chinese film students at his university. Even though his performance in medical school was always within the top 1%, ZH was always deeply worried that without novel therapeutics, we as humans would only be targeted long term customers for the big pharmaceuticals. This became more evident to him upon studying neuro-pharmacology, as doctors in the field of neurology would only be able prescribe drugs that were more based around symptomatic relief.

ZH took another leap of faith and had shifted from studying medicine to medical research. He moved to the capital of  Australia at the age of 19, and continued his pursuit for medical knowledge at the University of Canberra. At 21, he received his professional artist contract under a privatized fine-art platform. The organization arranged a fundraiser for conservation of sea life along Australian coasts, where ZH’s painting ‘Zero’ had raised AUD$187,000. This was again glorified in national news. But the happiness was short lived for the artist, as his father had a heart attack soon after and he had to return home for tending to his recovery. The plot worsened when ZH himself required medical attention upon contracting pneumonia. But the silver lining was his professional art career’s foundation was made, enabling him to participate in multiple other fundraisers and accelerate his personal sales.

After his recovery, he started looking into the next steps for further advancing in medical academia. He got a scholarship and final year direct entry into University of Greenwich. There he worked closely with legendary figures in the field of genetics and cancer research. His research project on pediatric brain cancer was supervised by Dr Lauren Pecorino, the author of ‘Molecular Biology of Cancer’ (Oxford Press). With the professor’s help and support of his peers, ZH had co-found the ‘Cancer Biology Society’ at his university in 2020. Soon after his contributions were recognized in ‘Molecular Biology of Cancer’ 5th Edition. This was a vital step for moving into the top end of medical academia. For post graduate studies, the field of neurology was finally open to him for specializing in further niche research.

ZH in fall of 2020 was offered a chance to study at King’s College London, which at the time was globally ranked the 2nd for neuroscience, with Harvard coming on top. Here he worked closely with the likes of Dr Sandrine Thurret, Dr Eamonn Welsh and many other well established neuroscientists. ZH specialized in ‘Neural Stem Cells & Neurodevelopment Research’ after working with Dr Agnes Nishimura on iPSC based research of Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) patients. In 2021, he joined as a biology  lecturer at a college in London, but soon after was appointed as the ‘Chief Neuroscientist’ at a private institution funded by Tower Hamlets Council.

From selling comics in his secondary school under the banner of “Rocket Comics” at the age of 10, to his first involvement as a designer in a startup called ZAZO at the age of 14, the entrepreneurial mindset was already evident in ZH. The mindset further matured upon being in the founding team of ‘Throttle Alpha’, an automotive media based startup established in 2017. In 2019, ‘TAG- The Art Geek’ was found by him. Now ZH is focused on improving the lives of millions through his 5 startups, collectively recognized under ZH Group. Him and his team have confirmed, that all startups will be publicized within the first quarter of next year and is intent on global expansion in 2023.
